Intimidated by her father, the rector of Knype Hill, Dorothy performs her submissive roles of dutiful daughter and bullied housekeeper. Her thoughts are taken up with the costumes she is making for the church school play, by the hopelessness of preaching to the poor and by debts she cannot pay in 1930s Depression England.

I loved this it has become my new favourite book. the story line was interesting (in a good way) and had a unique plot which I found to be very enjoyable and hooking although at first I got confused with the plot but as soon as a re read one of the chapter it all made sense. this is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it to anyone who has read any o ne of Orwell's other books.
