About this listen
Mina's well-ordered life is thrown into disarray when her father drops a bombshell on his deathbed: She has a brother she never knew of. Not only that, he is on his way to rescue her from the collapse of their school under a mountain of debts.
A wild journey across country later, Mina finds herself thrown at the feet of the brutish William Nye, prize-fighter and owner of a disreputable inn, The Merry Harlot. Respectable Mina is appalled to find herself obliged to wed this surly stranger!
Forced to draw on reserves of inner strength she never knew she possessed, Mina uncovers perilous secrets and bravely carves herself a new life at the side of this man, as she proves herself a more than worthy partner for the prize-fighter.

Loved it
This is my favourite of Alice Coldbreath books so far! Sweet with angst. Character development was awesome and that includes the side characters, could have done another 10 hours and still wanted more!

Truly enjoyable read
There is time spent developing the depth of the characters and Minerva is a strong interesting, intelligent, cool, female protagonist and the love story builds over time. I was sorry to leave the world of Minerva and William and could listen again and enjoy. I was thoroughly captured reading this story.

A well written story
Prizefighting is a the last theme I would have considered for a tale. However, some time back it was a pastime acknowledged by many a bd of course it still is followed by some today. Even though it fitted into the time frame I couldn’t give it 5 stars. I have cared for too many people who have suffered from side effects resulting from their boxing injuries and none of them aware of the devastation created on their persons. Still, the author has spent some time writing this book and I applaud her for showing the positive aspects of this trade.

OK.
Will and Mina were chalk and cheese but it worked. At times I found him forceful and crass towards Mina, but she was accepting of her lot in life and managed beyond those exchanges with strength, kindness and civility throughout. Like other reviewers, I too appreciated that it took a while for the growth and realisation of their love. It was in keeping with their personalities. The plot was good but i was rather disappointed with the execution. The intrigue was not so intriguing at the end, and other side-stories weren't fleshed out enough to cause much interest despite the opportunity do so. The fantastic narration added liveliness to an otherwise flat story that could've been so much more.
