Publisher's Summary

A brilliantly claustrophobic and twisty thriller from the critically acclaimed author Catherine Ryan Howard.

No one even knew they were together. Now one of them is dead.

Fifty-six days ago. Ciara and Oliver meet in a supermarket queue in Dublin and start dating the same week COVID-19 reaches Irish shores.

Thirty-five days ago. When lockdown threatens to keep them apart, Oliver suggests they move in together. Ciara sees a unique opportunity for a relationship to flourish without the scrutiny of family and friends. Oliver sees a chance to hide who - and what - he really is.

Today. Detectives arrive at Oliver's apartment to discover a decomposing body inside.

Can they determine what really happened, or has lockdown created an opportunity for someone to commit the perfect crime?

Critic Reviews

"Catherine Ryan Howard has become my go-to writer for utterly absorbing, original stories with a killer twist and 56 Days delivers all this and more." (Jo Spain, number one best-selling author of The Confession)

"Clever, tender and all too convincing, it's the kind of book you read in one breathless setting to get to the truth." (Erin Kelly, author of He Said/She Said

"An utterly brilliant and completely satisfying pageturner." (Catherine Kirwan)

What a disappointment this has been. I had great hopes for it but really found it disappointing and wouldn’t read anything by her again

A MUST read! So stunning with the twists and turns. Bittersweet memories of pandemic in Ireland.

Really good news different story

Enjoyed this book, it is clever, topical and held my attention. Each character is well-thought out and the premie is gripping. The only reason I have deducted a star is for the annoying Americanisms such as 'cart' for shopping trolley, 'garbage' for rubbish, 'sneakers' for trainers and 'lobby' for hall/front entrance. I understand the need for the language to be understood in the US but the changing of the Irish vernacular was grating.

So much describing...not much else.

Started off well. I have up as story progressed...so much back and forth...so much description it got tedious and I started to fast forward. The past sections got repetitive and confusing.... I fell asleep attending and was relieved to be finished with this ...the narrator's voice also began to grate.....a shame as could have been so much better

Solid thriller, great story

Ok everyone, this is a serious bit of fiction in the crime/romance genre. The pace is absolutely perfect and the characters are relatable and well developed. Strongly recommended!!!

Great audiobook

Became totally immersed in this - a fab crime thriller with plenty of twists. Possibly too much detail of the early lockdown - after all, we did all live it and are never likely to completely forget - but I suppose in years to come it will prove to jog the memory.

Love this Author, but disappointed in this one.

I am more than half way through this book and sadly, I am still not engaged with it. There is a lot of tooing and froing. Sometimes that works, but here, for me, it doesn’t. The characters lack depth and the storyline is a bit weak. I feel a bit bad leaving a poor review for a novel by such a good Author, but in the interests of others, I also feel obliged to. I fear I will return this one.

Unexpected thriller set during pandemic

This had some interesting twists and definitely best read or listened to without too much prior information

Definitely hard to put down
