About this listen

It has been 40 years since the publication of this classic science-fiction novel that changed the way we look at the stars and ourselves. From the savannas of Africa at the dawn of mankind to the rings of Saturn as man adventures to the outer rim of our solar system, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a journey unlike any other.

This allegory about humanity's exploration of the universe, and the universe's reaction to humanity, was the basis for director Stanley Kubrick's immortal film, and lives on as a hallmark achievement in storytelling.

similar to the movie but with a bigger prologue on prehistoric Earth, what sets it apart is the ending which is just glorious.

wonderful

So glad I finally got to read the original. The narration is excellent, especially the creepy Hal voice. Considering whether to pursue the next book..but unfortunately it's not on Audible 😪

After all these years, it's still got it!

Arthur C Clarke can deliver you to the veiled cloud tops of Jupiter and Saturn, or to the orbit of unknown solar systems. When you arrive, you will find yourself absorbed by his vivid imagination. Along the way, you'll confront questions of AI, physical matter, time and what it means to be part of the Universe.

In fifty years, the themes of 2001 have barely aged a day, which is the enduring magic of Clarke's telling.

Timeless...

Enjoyed the audiobook much more than the film, which I saw years ago. Worth it.

Now the film makes sense

I’d always heard of 2001 and knew the basic plot but had never read or watched the movie. It’s so much more than I was expecting. A fabulous story keeping you thinking and wondering.
Thanks to earlier reviews I skipped the author forward which has some minor spoilers. Suggest do the same and come back to it at the end.

Absolutely Brilliant

ACC shows his futuristic view of everything... hard to believe this was published when I was 8.

Better than the movie

It's hard to believe that this is a work of imagination, before the time when much of its reality had seen fruition. A testament to the skill and imagination of Arthur C Clarke. A delightful look into a possible history of mankind, and life unknown.
A brilliant compendium to the 2001 Movie, albeit, with distinct differences that make it a thrilling new adventure.
Biggest disappointment is that the sequel, 2010, doesn't appear to be available on Audible... yet.

A Classic Odyssey

Too many people hail the movie by Stanley Kubrick as brilliant but it pales in comparison to the book, this book is an awsome tale, it sets the standard for space opera. The oration and performance by Dick Hill is exceptionally well done. Where is 2010:Odyssey Two

Awsome

Such a fantastic reading to accompany a fantastic book. One of the most stirring and important sci-fi novels of all time

Perfect companion to the film but stands on its own feet
