About this listen

George Orwell's nineteen Eighty-Four is one of the most definitive texts of modern literature. Set in Oceania, one of the three inter-continental superstate that divided the world among themselves after a global war, Orwell's masterful critique of the political structures of the time, works itself out through the story of Winston Smith, a man caught in the webs of a dystopian future, and his clandestine love affair with Julia, a young woman he meets during the course of his work for the government. As much as it is an entertaining read, nineteen Eighty-Four is also a brilliant, and more importantly, a timeless satirical attack on the social and political structures of the world.

Such a great story. Well written and great descriptions. this was my first story based audiobook. I wasn't too sure about Benjamin at the start, but he did a very good job in his narration. Very consistent in his speech and character voices.

Definitely worth more than the price.

Definitely worth a listen.

Unfortunately, I had to return this version of 1984 as it was unsuitable for the purposes of playing aloud to students in an English lesson due to multiple errors in pronunciation. For example, the word ‘yenas was not recognised as a shortened form of the word hyenas and was mispronounced. Other examples of more basic language errors were even more obvious.

Reasonable story, below par performance
