The End of Faith was Harris’ first book – it offered a fearless analysis of the dangers of religion, “religious beliefs are simply beyond the scope of rational discourse” according to Harris who sets about dismantling what he sees as the suspension of reason and rationality afforded to religion and the religious. Harris describes his criticism of religion (in this book, and broadly) as focusing on what he considers “bad ideas, held for bad reasons, leading to bad behavior”. The End of Faith earned Harris the 2005 Pen Award for nonfiction.

In addition to his books, he has also been published in The New York Times, The Economist, The Times, The Boston Globe, and The Atlantic.

Harris hosts regular discussions on his 'Waking Up' podcast which explores questions about the human mind, society, and current events. In 2010, Harris delivered a TED Talk titled ‘Science can answer moral questions’ – it has been viewed more than three million times. More recently Harris revisited TED to deliver a second talk, titled, ‘Can we build AI without losing control over it’.

Sam Harris was born on 9 April 1967 in Los Angeles. He is married and has two daughters.
Waking Up is an eloquent exploration of spirituality without religion. Its approach is described by The New York Times as ‘between Godliness and Godlessness’. Sam Harris came to prominence after the publication of his 2004 book The End of Faith, in which he delivered a searing rebuke of the role he says religion plays in exacerbating human conflict. In Waking Up, Harris argues that ideals often associated with religion – such as a transcendent spiritual understanding of human consciousness – are achievable through what the author describes as “a rational approach to spirituality”. Waking Up is read for you by the author and is informed by his expertise in neuroscience and psychology.
Islam and the Future of Tolerance: A Dialogue is a conversation between American author Sam Harris and British Maajid Nawaz, a former radical Islamist. In Islam and the Future of Tolerance: A Dialogue, Harris and Nawaz have a frank conversation dealing with what Harris describes as a “grotesque combination of political sensitivity and moral callousness” when it comes to society’s discourse around Islamism, jihadism, and fundamentalism. This thought-provoking audiobook is scoring rave reviews from Audible listeners.
