Tricia Rose is internationally recognized for her trailblazing insights and ability to deepen our understanding of complex social issues. Tricia’s pioneering body of work includes the groundbreaking study of hip hop (Black Noise, 1994), a moving oral history of Black women’s sexual lives (Longing to Tell, 2003), a critical assessment of hip hop’s evolution (The Hip Hop Wars, 2008), a first-of-its-kind systems analysis of racism (Metaracism, 2024) and the uniquely immersive experience on systemic racism and resilience, Way Outta No Way (2025). Tricia earned her Ph.D. from Brown University and her B.A. from Yale University. She is currently a professor at Brown University, where she now serves as Chancellor’s Professor of Africana Studies and Director of the Systemic Racism and Resilience Project at the John Nicholas Brown Center for Advanced Study.
