Suzanna Stinnett was born in Oklahoma and lives in the San Francisco Bay area as well as Duluth, Minnesota. Among her early influences were the vast Oklahoma skies, the meditative bison of the Wichita Mountains, and a family of readers who loved language. Formative years included tolerance-building exercises such as sitting in scratchy petticoats for long hours in Baptist church pews. During these trying hours, her mind was likely to be filled with rhymes and images from Dr. Seuss books. Stinnett wrote three novels during her 20s and 30s, while producing workshops on brain health and the non-fiction book on the imagination, later published by Sourcebooks as "Little Shifts." Since the 1980s, Suzanna has enjoyed the Bay area, mainly living in the decadently fertile counties directly north of the Golden Gate. She draws inspiration from the fog-wrapped Pacific coast, and once lived in a cabin built by Miwoks, among the elk and bobcats at the shore of Tomales Bay. Researching brain science is an ongoing pursuit. Suzanna has taught workshops on brain health, women's writing and publishing. Road trips documenting murals across the U.S. began in 2018. 13,000 miles have been covered so far. Those journeys are being documented on TheArtAtlas.com. During the locked-down months of the covid virus, she participated in an artist's residency that resulted in the creation of a deck of cards called Earthy Divine. More about this divination deck can be seen at earthywriting.com. Currently, Suzanna is immersed in a project to help people connect to their imagination, and expand the collective imagining for viable futures to come. See her shares about this journey on her Instagram feed, @Brainmaker.
