Susan Hurley is a writer who worked in medical research and the pharmaceutical industry for more than thirty years. Her research has been published in high-profile medical journals like The Lancet. Eight Lives, her first novel, is set in the high-stakes biotechnology world. With its origins in a real-life drug trial that ended in tragedy, Eight Lives has been described as ‘a clever, sobering book’ (The Age) and ‘an intricate thriller’ (Australian Book Review). Eight Lives won the 2020 Sisters in Crime Davitt Award for Best Debut Crime Book and was shortlisted for the 2020 Ned Kelly Award for Best Debut Crime Fiction and, as an unpublished manuscript, for the 2018 UK Caledonia Novel Award.
