Soichi Nakamura
Political philosopher and liberal arts educator.
A former tennis player who once competed at Wimbledon, Nakamura was the first-ranked player at the prestigious Sakurada Club and achieved the top national ranking in Japan for men’s singles.
He later studied liberal arts at Columbia University in New York, where he encountered the intellectual depth and spirit of the Core Curriculum. Upon returning to Japan, he became a partner at KPMG, one of the world’s largest consulting firms, advising leading global companies such as Mitsui & Co., Marubeni, Hitachi, and PepsiCo.
Currently a professor at a university in Hyogo Prefecture, he devotes himself to teaching and research in liberal arts and philosophy. Recognizing the lack of genuine liberal arts education in Japan, he sees it as his mission to make this form of education accessible to students, working professionals, and even children.
His book “Greek and Roman Civilization as Liberal Arts” became a bestseller in Japan and has been translated and published in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, China, and elsewhere. His follow-up title, “Lectures on Justice”, also became a category bestseller on Amazon Japan.
In recent years, he has launched several liberal arts courses on online platforms, offering a wide range of content from beginner-friendly introductions to university-level and corporate training materials. He also runs a YouTube channel that explores classical texts, philosophy, and history through a modern lens.
With a focus on “rediscovering liberal arts,” Nakamura continues to promote this educational tradition through books, lectures, and online courses, helping readers connect the wisdom and stories of humanity with the challenges and questions of modern life.
