Born and raised amidst the towering piney woods of East Texas, I was the youngest of three children in a close-knit family. My parents, both hard-working and dedicated, did everything they could to provide for us, often working long hours. The significant age difference between me and my older brother meant that I spent much of my childhood entertaining myself. We lived in the countryside, surrounded by nature’s beauty, and I spent countless hours exploring the vast woods, armed with nothing more than my trusty bicycle and a Daisy BB gun. Those woods became the backdrop for my vivid imagination, where I transformed into Sir Lancelot rescuing Lady Guinevere or Davy Crockett defending the Alamo. Without realizing it, I was crafting intricate stories in my mind, shaping the foundation of a lifelong love for storytelling.
Music was another early influence in my life. My parents were both gifted singers, their voices as captivating as any professional musician I’ve ever heard. My father, a self-taught guitarist, passed down his passion for music to me, encouraging me to explore this inherited talent. As I navigated my teenage years, I discovered that I, too, could sing, a natural gift that seemed to flow effortlessly from the musical legacy of my parents. My brother, sister, and I all shared this gift, and I quickly realized the profound joy that music could bring to others. This realization sparked a desire within me to use my voice and words to connect with people.
I began to write songs, pouring my heart into the lyrics, focusing on storytelling and the emotional journeys that words could evoke. Although my skills with musical instruments were limited, I found my strength in crafting lyrics that could transport listeners to places of happiness, sadness, pride, and comfort. In 2000, I became a husband and the father of three beautiful daughters. Music remained a constant in our lives, and I continued to write and perform songs at our church. I never pursued commercial success; instead, I found fulfillment in sharing my music with others, witnessing how it touched their hearts and minds.
In 2007, my son was born, and a new chapter in my creative journey began. Each night, for the first five years of his life, I would make up stories on the spot as I put him to bed. This nightly ritual reignited my imagination, and soon, stories and ideas began to flood my mind, one after another. In 2018, a particularly vivid story took hold of me, playing out in my mind like a movie. It haunted me until, in 2019, I finally began to write it down. Piece by piece, I assembled the narrative, guided by the complete outline that had formed in my mind. By 2024, my story, The Other Road, was completed. Today, my mind is a battleground of stories, each vying for attention, and I hope to share them with the world someday.
I was born and raised in East Texas, and after graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, I moved to the Nashville, Tennessee area. I am married to the love of my life, and together we have three wonderful daughters, one amazing son, and twelve cherished grandchildren. Though I continue to work in Corporate America, I find time to write whenever I can. It is my hope that my storytelling brings you joy, cheer, and a brief escape from the troubles of the world around you.
