Ruth's fantasy novel Two Moons of Merth was recently featured on the USC campus at the LA Times Festival of Books 2024. Two Moons of Merth is the first book in a trilogy, with the second book, Jaxyl Warrior Princess, most recently released. One reviewer of Two Moons of Merth declared it a "masterpiece of fantasy fiction." The fantasy trilogy delves into female empowerment, spirituality, and perseverance, rebuffing typical male-centric societal expectations and beliefs. Each book is a stand-alone adventure. Ruth's writing style is brisk and engaging with a steady stream of action, intrigue, and adventure that readers love, with plenty of suspense woven in from chapter to chapter. She has two other novels other than the Merth Trilogy. They are Beyond: A Tale of Discovery on the Other Side of Life, which won a Pencraft Book Award for science fiction. Her first novel is White Oak: A Steamy Tale of Love and Seduction. Ruth has also written a popular book on Codependency Recovery titled, Living Happy Joyous and Free. Ruth C Mitchell has been courting chaos all her life. It’s okay she’s got this. “I started writing as a child to gather my thoughts into a cohesive stream. I have really bad ADHD, and now that it’s popular, I’m greatly amused. Modern tests reveal that people with attention deficit can gather more blueberries than the average person, making their chances of survival in prehistoric times much better. But if you are a 5th child in a family of six, the last girl of four growing up in the fifties, you learn to ask for and get as many stiff petticoats as you want with the matching patent leather ‘Mary Jane’ shoes. I wasn’t dumb; I just had a hard time expressing myself verbally, which is still true today. Thus, like a blind person has a heightened sense of smell, I can write in an environment where I break all the rules. I write in snatches of fifteen minutes or so after I have been present in my day, and I might have the inclination or inspiration to do so. There are no soul-sucking rules I have made up for my performance. I used to say I had to reach up and grasp the thorny tail of my muse as she flew by, blowing flames out her putrid nostrils, but now she just sits on my shoulder cackling when I’m in front of my tiny little surface laptop—I really need a new computer. They say if you do something 10,000 times, you are bound to meet a level of success. Writing is one of those mountains I have climbed, and I enjoy it immensely. But back to the little girl in petticoats with long golden braids, my mother replaited every morning until I was about nine. I also went through a tomboy stage and never forgot the sense of adventure I felt running through the woods barefoot with a stick for a sword, shouting, ‘I’ve got you now!’ Somewhere in my teens, those two personas merged, and I found myself in the Age of Aquarius, where young women, older than I, were making a big statement by burning their bras. I didn't even own one yet. The Beatles happened, Woodstock happened, Gloria Steinem happened, and I was all about rebellion until my thirties, when I discovered this mindset was not working for me anymore, and I got slapped in the face with reality. I realized I needed to harness this superpower and make it work for me, not against me. As a mother, I experienced two very different, but crazy births, which gave me the experience to write the epic birthing scene of Yezda Astreas aboard the Talvoc ship, the Ursula Weir in Jaxyl Warrior Princess, the second book of the Tales of Merth Trilogy. While presented as entertainment, all my books have underlying themes. I love connecting with readers in this way, delivering these ideas with lots of syrup on the pancakes. Writing is the most entertainment I will ever need, and if it speaks to others, that’s so grooooovy. One reader/fan has told me she likes my books better than the Outlander series. I am so humbled by this, as I have found so much solace in the genius of Diana Gabaldon.”
