With a multifaceted career spanning decades, Dr. Tompkins has dedicated her life to bringing hope and positive change to individuals and communities worldwide.
A proud alumna of Florida State University, Dr. Tompkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, a reflection of her unwavering commitment to societal betterment. Her early career as an addiction professional laid the foundation for her most impactful endeavor: the founding of Mothers In Crisis, Inc. in 1991. Under her visionary leadership, this 501(c)(3) organization has become a beacon of hope, providing vital support to families grappling with addiction and inspiring them to live lives filled with potential and purpose.
Dr. Tompkins' academic journey continued with a Masters and Doctor of Divinity from BC Graham Theological Seminary, where she also served as the Ambassador of Foreign Affairs. Her dedication to humanitarian service was further recognized with a Doctorate of Humanities from the Five-Fold Ministry Theological University in 2012, honoring her tireless efforts to alleviate the struggles of families affected by addiction.
As the President of Mothers In Crisis, Inc., Dr. Tompkins has touched the lives of tens of thousands, driving transformative change in communities across the globe. Her influence extends far beyond her organization; she played a pivotal role in establishing April as a nationally recognized Month of Hope through the National Day Calendar, a monumental achievement that solidified her brand of Hopeology as a cornerstone of societal well-being.
An accomplished author, Dr. Tompkins has penned several works, including the inspiring book “As Long As There Is Breath In Your Body, There Is Still Hope” and her latest book, “God’s Way, A Lifelong Journey to Everlasting Peace and Joy.” Her personal triumph over addiction for more than three decades stands as a living testament to her belief in the transformative power of hope. Her voice, both literal and literary, continues to be a guiding light for those seeking to navigate life's complexities with resilience and optimism.
Dr. Tompkins is also the founder of Turning Point International Church, which is the Chapel of Mothers In Crisis, as well as the founding apostle of Turning Point International Alliance, which encompasses ministries and churches across Africa and Asia. Her humanitarian spirit has led her to travel extensively, reaching out to widows, orphans, and refugees in countries in East, Central, and South Africa, as well as Jamaica, Turkey, Nepal, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
In addition to her humanitarian and spiritual work, Dr. Tompkins is a dynamic entrepreneur. She is the author and practitioner of the "Practice of Hopeology," and the founder of the Hopeologist® Trademark, registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Through the Hopeologist Academy, she continues to promote hope through advocacy and education. She also hosts and administers “Hope Immersion Retreats” (HIR), and serves as the producer and host of the “Where Is Hope?” TV show. Her voice reaches even further as a guest columnist for the “Tallahassee Democrat” and “Capital Outlook” newspapers.
