Marion Taffe grew up on Magnetic Island in North Queensland and later in her family’s historic Ballarat (Victoria) home, which was open to the public. She studied Arts at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and rowed for Australia before embarking on a twenty-year journalism career. While living in Manchester, Marion developed her interest in Roman and Medieval English history. In Australia, she worked at newspapers in Queensland, where she was editor of the Paradise Magazine, and Victoria, where she was national features editor at mX for eight years. She studied Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT and was awarded a Varuna Residential Fellowship in 2023 to work on her debut novel By Her Hand, published by HarperCollins 4th Estate in March, 2025. Marion lives in Naarm (Melbourne) with her family.
