Marcus Smalling is a chartered accountant and part-time author who grew up in Bristol, England and attended university in Oxford. He went on to work in London, before setting up his own accountancy business, specializing in small companies. He lives in London with his wife and their three sons. Marcus was always passionate about numbers and from a young age he had already decided what he wanted to do in life. But his experience of working for a large company, dealing with international conglomerates that had a global reach, did not suit his idea and he soon made the decision that working for himself would be better for his sanity. Working with smaller businesses may not have been as lucrative, but it was certainly more fulfilling and when Marcus discovered QuickBooks he researched the idea thoroughly before deciding to write a book about it. Now he advocates the idea of QuickBooks to many small business owners and sole traders, while still working with them to polish and finalize their accounts. In his spare time, Marcus enjoys going to watch Chelsea football club and taking his wife to the theatre. He usually takes a two week holiday in Spain every year, where he and his family relax in a villa or a hotel by the sea.
