Kathy Leach is a Training and Supervising Psychotherapist, author and artist. She was born in Leicester, studied for her degree in London and then trained as a probation officer at the Home Office. On starting a family, she became a teacher in exercise, healthy eating and weight control, stress management and relaxation, and then a teacher trainer. It was during these years of part-time work that she grew to be curious about why some people lost weight and maintained the loss, others regained weight and some did not lose at all. When she retrained as a psychotherapist she began researching the psychological reasons for weight gain. The research is fascinating. Her main qualification is in Transactional Analysis, although she is also trained in other disciplines. Kathy works in private practice in Wiltshire and teaches in various parts of the country. She is qualified to train and supervise psychotherapists as well as psychotherapy trainers and supervisors and offers courses in working with this client group which are open to anyone working in the field. She also runs intensive therapy groups for patients who struggle with weight or have a poor relationship with food. She is well known for her work and understanding of the complexities of this field. She shows empathy and huge regard for people she works with. Kathy wrote "The Overweight Patient" after almost 30 years of working in various capacities with overweight people. The book has been well received all over the world. She is now in the process of writing a supplementary self-help guide based on her in- depth and empathic understanding of the suffering patients experience when they feel unable to lose weight or maintain weight loss. The book will be useful for sufferers and practitioners. The new book is specifically to guide readers through a journey of discovering what part food and their larger size play in their lives, with an emphasis on psychological change and control over eating and weight. When psychological reasons for maintaining weight or overeating remain unresolved, the patient will invariably continue to hold on to the weight and overeat. It will also be a guide for practitioners to work constructively, relationally, psychologically and emotionally with their clients. The new book "The overweight Mind and Body" is available to order at Amazon. Alongside this she is developing an App that will help determine what is going on. It is a new and unique way of losing weight if that is what you want to do. The App is "myfoodspace" and will be available from February 2022 as will the website of the same name which provides further information and help.
