Joe Hox was raised on a farm in southern Iowa. This was a region made up of fields and pastures dappled with ponds, thick timber, and untamed shale hills from long-abandoned coal mines. In such a place, a boy could find ample space to explore. Certainly farm life included toil, but creativity was as hallowed a family value as work ethic. This was most evident at mealtimes when rambling tales could be shared with a captive audience. Joe continues this tradition of storytelling through his artwork.
