This week, we’re talking with Jeffrey Carrier about his book, Who Wants To Be Greek? Tell us something unexpected about yourself! I am a proud first-time father to a 13-month-old boy with another on the way. Why do you write? To share my storytelling vision with the world Where did you get the inspiration for your current book? Living in Lutz, FL, near Tarpon Springs, I grew the desire to share Greek Family life and traditions at the time of the Glendi Epiphany Festival, so much so that I created this book and audible for everyone to enjoy the experience with me. What do you enjoy the most about your genre? Coming of age books are timeless and there are so many different ways you can make a connection. Sometimes the main character is just so real, you can see your younger self in their personality. Other times it’s the experience; you’ve gone through this before, or you know someone who has, and it strikes a chord. How would you describe your writing process? My writing process involves researching, prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing multiple times to develop and expand your ideas. What do you think authors have to gain from participating in social media? Social Media is an increasingly unavoidable facet of daily life, and authors should benefit by keeping fingers on the pulse of their target audiences, building a fan-based community, and show readers they are appreciated. What advice would you have for other writers? Write whatever you want to write and not what others expect. Don’t let criticism demoralize you. Being rejected and criticized is a huge part of a writer’s life. Start writing about what you know, but don’t stick to it. Don’t second guess your ability. If you’ll keep on writing, you’ll only get better. Read about what you want to write. It’ll help you understand the basics and thumb rules of that particular genre. How do you select your books’ titles and covers? Considering the essence of my book, the title came to me for modern and post-millennial audiences, and the cover is of Tarpon Springs Sponge Diving Docks which is one of the main staples for Greek life and traditions in Florida. What's your next step? To continue raising our firstborn toddler son, and next Feb welcome my second-born son to the world. My interests drive my passions to create works of fiction that are page-turners. Too early in my processes to name future productions to date. What book do you wish you had written? Anything by Michael Crichton. Whether you like him or not, he just tells a story so beautifully. Always gets me hooked as no other writer can. I'd love to do the same for others. How do you react to seeing a new review for your book? As a new author and self-publisher, I haven't received any reviews to date. Being that I've traveled most of my adult life through the military and as a contractor, I don't have people close to me, and the so-called Facebook friends I have seem unwilling to read my book or write reviews. Once the Audible is available by this week's end, I hoping to make more of an impact on sales. I, not one to beg for acceptance. Paying for promoting my book will help to be the spark my book required to get the reviews coming in. FOLLOW JEFFREY ON TWITTER! @Jeffrey_Carrier
