Janet Patti is a Professor Emeritus at Hunter College, CUNY. Dr. Patti holds an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Arizona, and a Master's Degree in Bilingual Education (1978) from Hunter College, CUNY. Dr. Patti is an internationally recognized educator and author in social and emotional learning and educational leadership development. Before assuming her university posts, Dr. Patti worked for 25 years in Pre-K-12 public schools as a teacher, administrator, and school guidance counselor in New York City and San Diego, California. Dr. Patti’s research interests are twofold: to help leaders acquire successful strategies to create and sustain caring, safe, learning communities that are conducive for learning and well-being; to help leaders embark upon a transformative, reflective process of leadership development and to model emotional and socially intelligent leadership. Janet works with school leaders and teams to assess school culture, enhance leadership skills, and promote building a strong school community based on trust and agreed-upon values. In 2004, she co-created and published The Star Factor Coaching Model for leaders. The research-based model is derived from the EI frameworks of Dan Goleman and Richard Boyatzis, Salovey and Mayer, Marc Brackett, and theories of adult education, positive psychology, intentional change, motivation, and systems thinking. Dr. Patti is a founding member of the Leadership Team of the Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and a member of the Consortium for Research in Emotional Intelligence in Organizations. She has co-authored numerous articles and chapters in leadership, conflict resolution, social and emotional learning, and coaching. She is the co-author of Smart School Leaders: Leading with Emotional Intelligence (2006) and Waging Peace in Our Schools (1996). Her most recent book co-authored with Dr. Robin Stern is Emotional Intelligence for School Leaders. As CEO of Star Factor of NYC Inc., Dr. Patti trains coaches and provides professional development to leaders. She is the proud wife of Barry Daub and mother of Roxana Daub.
