Jacob Rodenburg Executive Director; Camp Kawartha & The Kawartha Outdoor Education Centre Jacob Rodenburg Executive Director, Camp Kawartha & The Kawartha Outdoor Education Centre Jacob Rodenburg has devoted more than 30 years to helping children, youth, and adults fall in love with the natural world. As Executive Director of Camp Kawartha—a nationally recognized summer camp and outdoor education centre in Ontario—he has dedicated his career to nurturing future environmental stewards through hands-on learning, storytelling, and community engagement. A passionate educator and author, Jacob teaches environmental education at Trent University and helped design one of Canada’s most sustainable buildings, the award-winning Camp Kawartha Environment Centre. This living classroom demonstrates green building, renewable energy, and low-impact living to thousands of students and future teachers each year. Jacob is co-author of The Big Book of Nature Activities and The Wild Path Home: A Guide to Raising the Earth Stewards of Tomorrow, as well as author of The Book of Nature Connection. His work has earned national recognition, including awards from Ontario Nature, the Ontario Society for Environmental Education, and the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication. He also spearheaded the Pathway to Stewardship and Kinship, a groundbreaking community-wide framework that guides children from birth to adulthood in experiences that foster wonder, empathy, and care for the Earth. This initiative helped the Peterborough–Kawartha region become a designated UNESCO Regional Centre of Expertise in sustainability education. It is also the basis for his new book co-authored with Cathy Dueck: The Wild Path Home Whether mentoring teachers, planting seeds with children, or writing about our shared kinship with the natural world, Jacob’s mission is to rekindle a sense of wonder and belonging. He believes that by nurturing small, everyday acts of care, we can raise a generation who not only protects the Earth, but cherishes it—with gratitude, courage, and hope.
