Originally from Tucson, Arizona, I've received degrees from Dartmouth College and Yale University. Now I teach Latino and U.S.-Mexico borderlands history at Northwestern University. My first book, Standing on Common Ground, is about the U.S.-Mexico border since World War II, and I'm beginning research projects on Latino conservatism and trade between the United States and Mexico. I have written about immigration, the border, and U.S.-Latin American relations for the Journal of American History, the New York Times, the Atlantic, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Arizona Daily Star.
