Chiara Barzini is an award winning Italian screen and fiction writer. She lived and studied in the United States where she covered Lifestyle and Culture stories for numerous American and Italian magazines. She writes both in English and Italian and is the author of the short story collection "Sister Stop Breathing" (Calamari Press, 2012) and the novel "Things That Happened Before The Earthquake" (Doubleday, 2017) which was a "Best Book of the Year" for Esquire, Elle, Bustle, BBC, Oprah Magazine, and The New York Times that declared her as “a writer to watch, as she positions herself astride both American and Italian culture.” Elle magazine likened her mood to that of Elena Ferrante, with a “cinematic view of the sexy, dirty business of becoming an adult.” Her debut non-fiction book "Acqua" (Canongate) will be released in November 2025. She has a regular column in D Repubblica and has written articles and profiles in Rolling Stone, Vogue, T Magazine, Interview, Harper’s, Vanity Fair Italy, Vice, and Dazed&Confused amongst others. She has recently translated Diane Williams’ latest story collection "I Hear You're Rich" into Italian for Edizioni Black Coffee. She has been nominated for various Screenwriting Awards in Italy, including the Nastri D’Argento and the Italian Golden Globes.
