Brigitte E. S. Jansen writes about subjects that, at first glance, have little in common: bioethics and law, management and working methods, artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital media, plus cultural history, Indian cooking and cartoons. What ties them together is a way of thinking rooted in systems theory. She is less interested in what a new technology can do than in what it changes, in organisations, in the law and in people's everyday lives.

Her path there was anything but a straight line. Before university, she qualified as a stud manager, specialising in breeding and horse keeping, and as a farmer, specialising in grassland and livestock production. She wrote articles and guides on riding and driving, and judged at equestrian competitions. She then studied education, philosophy, psychology and sociology, among others under Niklas Luhmann, and earned two doctorates: a Dr. phil. and a Dr. rer. publ., the latter with a comparative study of the ethics and law of DNA banks.

From 1991 she led a project within the research group on cybernetic corporate strategy at the University of Lüneburg. She later served as a reviewer in bioethics and medical ethics for the European Commission and taught bioethics and legal studies as a visiting professor at the University of Madras in Chennai from 2005 to 2010. After that, she was a member of a research group at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. As an editor, she has overseen international book series, including one on xenotransplantation.

Since 2019 she has chaired the Gesellschaft für Arbeitsmethodik e. V., a non-profit association founded in 1954 and based in Baden-Baden, and runs its publishing house. It publishes her academic books, her non-fiction on AI and digital technologies, and her cartoon collections on management and AI. Her long connection with South India has also produced a photo book on the Pallava temples and an Indian cookbook. On top of that, she produces several podcast series.

Whatever the subject, her aim stays the same: to explain complex developments in a way that lets readers make up their own minds, with sources they can check and without jargon for jargon's sake.
