Anne Carroll George (1927-2001) was an American author and poet. An Alabama native, she graduated from Samford University and taught school for many years before writing full time. During her career she was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for Some of It Is True, a poetry collection. She was also awarded the coveted Agatha Award in 1996 for her first Southern Sisters Mystery, Murder on a Girls Night Out. But before she won the Agatha Award she named Alabama's State Poet in 1994, and co-founded Druid Press to help new writers from around the state be published. Sadly, George died in 2001 of surgical complications—but not before submitting her 7th Southern Sisters Mystery, Murder Boogies with Elvis (published posthumously).
