Born in Barcelona, Albert Folch is a professor of Bioengineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. His laboratory develops miniature cancer drug testing approaches using microfluidics, robotics, and 3D printing. In his spare time, he plays soccer, prepares scientific art exhibits, and writes books. He has written a successful textbook (Introduction to BioMEMS, CRC Press, adopted in >100 departments worldwide), a book about the history of microfluidics (Hidden in Plain Sight, MIT Press), a recent book "for everyone" about the impact of microfluidics (How the World Flows, Oxford Univ. Press), and two general science books (both in Catalan: Caught on the Internet and The Science in Soccer, the latter soon available in English).
