AGNIESZKA SZPILA A writer, eco feminist, crip feminist culturologist, and social and environmental activist. In her books and essays, she explores themes of sexuality, discrimination, and systemic violence. Ecofeminism, along with the struggle for equal opportunities and rights for people with disabilities, forms the core of her work. In her blasphemous and ecosexual novel "Hexes of the Deadwood Forest", Szpila confronts the historical and ongoing persecution of women, evoking the violence of witch trials and the burning of women at the stake. Szpila treats literature as a socio-political and cultural intervention, rejecting the idea of writing for passive consumption as anachronistic in a world threatened by wars, climate catastrophe and marked by ongoing genocidal violence against marginalized groups. In "Octopussy and Other Post-porn Short Stories", she calls for a radical expansion of imagination, insisting that the time has come to give voice to forms of life beyond the human—those pushed outside culture, outside language, outside recognition. Only through such a shift, she argues, might it be possible to save the world—or at least to delay its end. She is currently working on a new novel, "Creepmama", which tells the story of a mother accused of attempting to kill her disabled daughters, and her confrontation with a violent system that demands maternal suffering—one in which a mother is expected to nourish not only her children, but an entire immature state with her own body. Creepmama is the first book in the world written in two languages - not only in alphabetical order, but also in picture form (AAC - Augmentative Alternative Communication) for people with intellectual disabilities, as in the case of the author's own daughters.
