This is sold as a "very dark men's fantasy", but like most of this author's books, it actually reads much more like women's erotica than men's. It's like the author understands the concept of the "male power fantasy", but doesn't know how to write about it in a way that appeals to men. Also, apart from the near complete lack of concern for the main character's children, it's not very dark at all, just typical dom-sub stuff.

The main character for the first two books that make up this omnibus is as unlikeable as those of the other books I've read or listened to by this author. Her personality is a carbon copy of the female lead from Insta-harem. She's another self-centered nymph-sub and seems to be basically immoral, looking at everything from the point of view of what she can get out of it, not caring about having one-night stands or turning tricks around her young children, being happy to fob off her parenting responsibilities on others at the slightest inclination, having no regard for laws that she breaks (and what the consequences would be for her children), and so on. Her actions in the final book just further demonstrate her moral repugnance. Her few friends seem to want to enable her behaviour for the most part, too. Then again, she does work in a law firm, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised ... . I did like the unusual racism angle, though; it's rare for authors to consider such things from alternative angles.

Book three switches unexpectedly to the perspective of one of the original main character's few friends, and ends up trying to insert some moral responsibility into the story, but the friend has basically no personality or depth; she's just there to signal virtues.

Writing quality is good for KU, with relatively few errors. It follows many of the same patterns as the author's other books, with simple matter-of-fact prose and dialogue that all sounds a bit samey. There are a number of little inconsistencies and timeline jumps that can be a bit confusing, as well as some unnecessary repetition, but nothing that's very important for the "plot", such as it is.

Intimate scenes are frequent and explicit in the first two thirds and missing from the last third. They tend to be fairly abrupt and not very detailed, and definitely closer to typical women's erotica than men's.

Audiobook narration is substandard. The narrator is monotonous for the most part, frequently mispronounces words (especially longer ones), and has poor cadence, regularly pausing unnaturally in the middle of sentences. There are also a couple of soft noises audible in the background (page turning, maybe?). She does do some very mild characterisation this time, so at least the dialogue is normally distinguishable from the prose.

Overall, this is a morally questionable story, but not for the reasons I expected. I just felt sorry for the main character's kids!
