About this listen

Pop star Leontyne Blake might sing about love, but she stopped believing in it a long time ago. What women want is her image, not the real her. When her father has a stroke, she flees the spotlight and returns to her tiny Missouri hometown.

In her childhood home, she meets small-town nurse Holly Drummond, who isn't impressed by Leo's fame at all. That isn't the only thing that makes Holly different from other women. She's also asexual. For her, dating is a minefield of expectations that she has decided to avoid.

Can the tentative friendship between a burned-out pop star and a woman not interested in sex develop into something more despite their diverse expectations?

Contains mature themes.

A beautiful story that is extremely well written about a sexuality that is normally over looked by most of society.

A love story with a twist.

Wow. This story was amazing! First of all, this is my very first encounter with an asexual lesbian romance! I was very curious and amazed at how Jae made it happen. I really enjoyed listening to this one.

Very acute

Another really enjoyable feel-good romance from Jae. Sweet and engaging characters and entertaining storyline.
I found the exploration into asexuality really informative and interesting. The story made it clear that the character Holly’s perspective as an asexual was only one in a wide spectrum of experiences and it didn’t generalise. Made me want to do some research into asexuality to broaden my understanding more.
Wonderful narration from Angela Dawe. Her narration carries the story and characters expertly.

Interesting and entertaining

Returning to her hometown because her father had a stroke, Leo meets her father’s nurse, Holly. They don’t like each other at first, but gradually a mutual respect develops. This is a romantic story with an asexual protagonist and a disillusioned pop star. Through tragedy and misunderstandings, the reader gets involved in their journey.

A small town romance

I found this book pretty interesting, the narrator was really good. And it's good to see some diversity representation.

The story taught me about asexuality which I enjoyed and researched further.

I can't help to wonder if those who identify as asexual found the outcome of the story authentic and useful though. I hope so.

I enjoyed it mostly but the last handful of chapters were a little monotonous and sappy for me.

But I would recommend it.

Worth a listen but a little cheesy

My first book by this author. I liked her writing style, character development and world-building. I enjoyed the time spent with Leo, Holly and supporting characters. I will definitely listen to more by Jae.

An enjoyable, warm story

Jae's tender approach to love in Perfect Rhythm is immeasurably enhanced by Dawe's perfect delivery. The story and performance combine into a breathtaking experience that gives raw emotion. I can't personally speak to the authenticity of the asexual point of view, but the delivery makes the listener consider attraction in ways they maybe never have before. Can't rate highly enough.

Compelling and heartfelt.

Good book, enjoyed it.

Narration was done well and believable characters.

Second half of the book focuses on explaining the intricate details of someone being Asexual and how someone who is Asexual dates a non Asexual which went on a bit too long for me but didn’t ruin the book.

Good read.
