About this listen
"I like you collared, baby. I like you naked, I like you mine."
Ellie Stevens has lusted over Kayne Roberts since he first walked into the import/export company she works for a little over a year ago. As Expo's most important client, Ellie has always kept a safe distance from the man with the majestic blue eyes - until temptation finally gets the better of her. Impulsively, Ellie invites Kayne to one of Expo's infamous company parties her flamboyant boss is notorious for throwing. Unbeknownst to Ellie, the god in the Armani suit isn't just the suave entrepreneur he portrays himself to be. Underneath the professional exterior is a man with a secret life, dark desires, and nefarious contacts.
In a hidden corner of a trendy New York City lounge, the spark kindling between the two of them ignites. Unable to resist the sinful attraction, Ellie agrees to leave with Kayne, believing she is finally bedding the man of her dreams. Little does she know when she walks out the door, she's about to be Owned.

I really disliked Kayne. You do get some understanding at the end, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy me so on to book 2 I went. I’m glad I did.
A word of caution: make sure to read the trigger warnings beforehand!
Despite the unsettling nature of the plot, if you can accept it as fiction and are prepared for the dark romance with its trigger warnings, it's undeniably a well-written, captivating story. M Never's storytelling is powerful, and the narrators' performances are phenomenal. The emotional depth they bring to the delivery is truly remarkable.
I don’t usually feel the need to read trigger warnings, but given how intense this book was, I just wish I had a heads up, or had a better understanding of Kayne earlier on.
Nonetheless, the intensity of the ride adds to the gripping nature of this very dark and twisted tale.

The story follows Ellie and Kayne, two central characters whose development unfolds gradually over the course of the book. Ellie’s arc is structured and consistent, and her progression feels intentional rather than rushed. Kayne is presented as a complex and conflicted figure, and while not always easy to understand, his role within the story adds depth and contrast. Their interactions are purposeful and drive much of the plot forward.
One of the strengths of this audiobook is its pacing. Subtle clues are layered into the narrative, encouraging the listener to stay engaged and consider how events may connect. While there are hints along the way, the ending still manages to shift perspective and add context to earlier moments without relying on unnecessary complexity.
The narration by Sam Crowley and Muffy Newtown is clear and well balanced. Both narrators deliver consistent performances that suit the tone of the story and help distinguish character viewpoints. The audio production itself is clean and easy to follow, making this a comfortable listen.
By the conclusion, the book clearly sets up interest in the next instalment, particularly in seeing how the characters move forward from the events of this story. A supporting character, Jett, also stands out and may appeal to listeners interested in future developments within the series.
Listeners should note that the content warnings are relevant and worth reviewing prior to listening.
Overall, Owned is a well-executed audiobook with strong narration, structured storytelling, and enough intrigue to encourage continuing the series.
