About this listen

Boss from hell. Satan personified. A tyrant everyone fears.

Nate Parrish loathes his boss from the moment they meet.

Raffaele Ferrara is probably the most insufferable, domineering man in the world. He doesn’t seem to understand that his personal assistant isn’t actually his personal slave. He expects Nate to do his bidding with a single word. He expects that Nate’s whole life will revolve around him. He expects other, entirely unreasonable things, even though they’re both straight and there’s supposed to be a line your boss should never cross. Apparently, as his personal assistant, Nate has to assist him… personally.

Except Nate knows it’s just a game. His boss is straight. He knows Raffaele just wants to make him angry enough to quit. But Nate has always been too stubborn for his own good, and he’s determined to be the best assistant his boss has ever had, no matter how insane—or inappropriate—Raffaele’s orders may become. Before long, the two men are drawn into a twisted game neither wants to lose.

Nate knows it has to stop. He has to leave his job. It’s not good for his sanity. Except his horrible boss is like a bad addiction he can’t quit. The world feels boring without Raffaele’s intensity, and his focus on Nate might be infuriating… but it’s also something Nate’s starting to realize he can’t live without.

VP of a lucrative suite of corporations, Raffaele Ferrara is rumoured to have Sicilian mob connections. His word is law and he rules his corporate empire with an iron fist, firing people for the most trivial of infractions. Fledgling game programmer Nate Parrish knows none of this when he pickets Ferrara’s head offices, and when Ferrara offers him a job as his PA, Nate knows it’s for Ferrara’s sadistic amusement, not because Ferrara likes him. Nate soon finds Ferrara is the boss from hell and that he can’t do anything right. The two bicker over everything but Nate slowly starts to enjoy the role, even when it takes a sexual turn. Both men consider themselves straight but there’s always a fine line between love and hate!

I thoroughly enjoyed this, Alessandra Hazard’s Straight Guys series has been consistently entertaining and steamy and this was no exception. Raffaele and Nate are such well-drawn odd-couple characters: Raffaele is outwardly cold and patrician, with a thinly disguised anger, while Nate is kind-hearted and sassy, but good at his job. Watching the two ostensibly straight guys shift from barely tolerating each other to Raffaele’s sexually dominant power play to an incendiary passion for each other was highly entertaining. 🎧 My only regret is that more of the series aren’t on audio (only 4 of the 14), they work so well as audiobooks! US voice actor Joshua Mcrae has worked on three of them and he always does an outstanding job. Here he captures Nate’s softer nature and Raffaele’s hardness perfectly!

Hot-as-hell bossy boss vs. sassy subordinate!
