About this listen

A shroud of amnesia cloaks Cain, a Scanguards bodyguard, in mystery. But the darkness shatters when a cryptic stranger appears, revealing a truth more dangerous than he could ever imagine: Cain was the target of an assassination, and he’s no mere bodyguard, but a powerful vampire king. Even more startling, he’s engaged to Faye, the enigmatic vampire who’s been haunting his dreams.

Believing Cain dead, Faye is consumed by grief, and only her loyalty to her clan keeps her from despair. For the sake of her people, she agrees to marry Abel, Cain’s brother—a devastating decision that explodes when Cain miraculously returns to reclaim his throne.

Now, Cain is relentless in his pursuit to reclaim the love he shared with Faye, but a ruthless assassin still stalks him, their determination knowing no bounds. Backed by his loyal Scanguards brethren, Cain is plunged into a fight for survival, facing an impossible choice: save his kingdom, or save his queen.

Narrator was not my taste. Didn’t like the narrator’s tone and voices, especially for any female voice. They sounded so fake. Though I loved listening to this book, I sort of switched off with the accents and speech pattern. It is even worse listening to Cain explain about all the women he had been with, of which there were a lot. He defends his being a cheating a-hole by saying I DIDN’T KNOW YOU EXSISTED, IN MY DREAMS IT WAS ALWAYS YOU. Rubbish. Even worse, Faye just accepts the amnesia excuse and says DON’T BLAME YOURSELF. Cain could have been married or had children, so he should have been more careful, especially as he was dreaming about a woman. BOOK REVIEW Loses a star for his infidelity. Another enjoyable book to add to the Scanguards series with interesting characters but one very annoying action spoilt it for me. What a great plot twist this was but I never saw Cain being someone special in the previous stories. When someone from his old life surfaces, Cain returns to his surprising past. And in doing so he finally meets the woman he has been dreaming about. I didn’t like Cain’s double standards though. He has been with lots of women over the last year but gets pissy when he thinks Faye has been with someone else. He at least tells her that he has slept around but she is all, its okay you didn’t remember me. Faye was his Fiancée. What I can’t excuse is the fact he was DREAMING of this special woman but still slept around. He could have been MARRIED for all he knew.

Narrator was not my taste.
