You really get swept up quickly in this enjoyable novel, as it is written with respect for the reader's intelligence and shows the intrinsic politeness of Don Castle's persona through his character of Jake Somers. Don Castle doesn't resort to foul language, violent scenes or over the top sexual innuendos, making this book ideal for young adult reading as well as the seasoned who-done-it fans.

Shadows follows the dangerous path that a woman's life takes in response to the evil forced upon her as a child. The effect of her tortured experience is illuminated when a beautiful young girl's body is discovered behind the office building that houses the Jake Somers Detective Agency. And then, when multiple murders occur across the city, and under similar circumstances, P.I. Jake Somers crime solving expertise is called upon by the police to help catch a serial killer.
Jake Somers is on another case, but this one seems to be more up close and personal as the evil searches even to those Jake cares about. It is a story that is layered with mystery, twists and turns, likeable and unlikeable people. The story takes you into Jake's private life and merges you with people he loves and are important to him, thus bringing a more realistic feel to the read.
