This is fluff, sweet, easily digested, uncomplicated fluff. If I didn't know and love New York City I may not have enjoyed it so much, but as I do, I ..Show More »loved listening to the locations, and the fun idea that NY is full of magic weirdness. The performance was limited by her inability to do even a passingly believable English accent, but was otherwise solid. If you're in the mood for something light, and can forgive flimsy plot devices and inconsistency, this might make you smile.
I found "Magic inc." more entertaining than this 2nd part of the series. Both have flimsy plots, but the first book had more giggles, and less..Show More » outright aggravation than I found in this one. Still, the character of Katie was likeable enough to keep me listening. Shanna Swendson's romance novel history spills into these books, and I have a terrible feeling I persevered more because I wanted to get to the punchline of the romantic plot than any real interest in the magic one. Perhaps there's a spell on this book, because I'm not given to being interested in straight romances. Boys kissing girls? Eeewww! The frogs made me giggle though.
I actively enjoyed the first book in this series. I was prepared to enjoy the 2nd, but the charm had worn off. This third one actively annoyed me. Cas..Show More »ablanca it ain't, and trying to emulate a classic ... All I can say is "Fail!" The manipulative ending that tries to suck people into reading the next book was enough to make me swear off getting it. This is still fluff, but it's caught in the back of my throat making me gag!
I came back to the series after being cranky about the third book. The 4th book rewarded my faith in it by being a significant improvement on the 3rd...Show More » It's still silly and fluffy, but this was enjoyable fluff, as opposed to annoying fluff.
I'd given up on the Magic Inc. series after the 3rd book because it irritated me so much. I returned for the 4th out of desperation for something ligh..Show More »t, and found this 5th in the series the best yet. It's still silly, but this one was again set in New York, which is half the fun for me. It also has the best action yet. There's more intrigue, and the magical threat looks like something properly threatening, which it never had in the previous books. I'm actively looking forward to number 6. Getting better all the time.
I'm deeply ambivalent about this one. I enjoyed others in the series, was annoyed enough not to continue for a while after one, and this last book was..Show More » a conglomeration of all those feelings. I like Katie, suspect Owen is a woman in drag, and find some of the plot mechanics very clunky. I'm both glad there aren't any more, and suspect I'll miss the characters. This one won't tax you mentally. If you like to finish series, you'll listen to it no matter what your expectations, I did.
