  • Margaret Murphy - life with Kevin and the beginnings of patient partnership

    If you work in patient safety, you may have heard the name Margaret Murphy. She is one of the first patient partners in Ireland and has spent her life advocating for patients, their families and healthcare staff. Margaret is the External Lead Advisor for the WHO’s World Alliance for patient safety, a network of 400 patient safety champions from 52 countries. She is the founding member of Patients for Patient Safety Ireland.

    Margaret shares how she has coped with the loss of her son Kevin Murphy due to a medical error and how she used this experience for change across healthcare. In this powerful episode, Margaret speaks about what transparency and openness would have meant for her family, what it felt like to finally be heard and her thoughts on how patient partnership is improving care in Ireland.
