  • Drinking & Parenting
    Apr 10 2024

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world... with no handbook! It's rewarding yet exhausting, and 'Mummy Wine Culture' promotes that alcohol is the perfect reward for surviving another long day. Your hosts Ruth, Jane and Clare have five children between them... and drank when the kids were younger. In this episode they share their honest experiences of alcohol in the early years - slurry bedtime stories, groggy hangover days and the Tooth Fairy not showing up, to name a few. They look at the wide-ranging benefits children AND parents experience from removing alcohol... increased patience, consistency and life-expectancy, plus reduced risk, harm and neglect. The physical, psychological, financial and societal positives are truly staggering! Your hosts also reflect on the younger generation's perception of alcohol, and hopes for a more sober-friendly future.

  • Day Counts
    Mar 21 2024
Counting alcohol-free days can be a very motivating tool when reducing alcohol consumption... seeing those numbers creep up keeps many people on track, and there are several apps on the market that display the linked benefits of calories and money saved. But does counting the days mean that it's still a conscious struggle to live alcohol-free? In this episode, Jane and Clare discuss why some people may find it a pointless or demotivating task: how does it take account of slips? Should the tally always return to zero, even if it's one day of drinking after several months? Is day-counting more of an online thing to be shared? And... when do you STOP counting - consciously, and in days? We'd love to know your thoughts! Find Fizz Free on most streaming platforms, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and X.

  • Intervention
    Mar 10 2024

An intervention can be a very effective - yet uncomfortable and difficult - way of challenging somebody's behaviour that has become harmful or unacceptable. Significant interventions usually involve strong feelings and vulnerability on both sides. They need to be highly planned and carefully delivered... with the risk of no desired change. In this searingly personal and honest episode, Jane shares with Clare an intervention letter that she received... which eventually led to her tackling her relationship with alcohol. They talk through how it felt to have heavy drinking behaviour challenged, the ensuing response, and steps towards change... as well as recapping on the relationship improvements since. A useful episode in in examining how intervention CAN lead to sobriety.
