Story
'There's an empty notebook lying on the table in the moonlight. It's been there for an age. I keep on saying that I'll write a journal. So I'll start right here, right now. I open the book and write the very first words: My name is Mina and I love the night. Then what shall I write? I can't just write that this happened then this happened then this happened to boring infinitum. I'll let my journal grow just like the mind does, just like a tree or a beast does, just like life does. Why should a book tell a tale in a dull straight line?'

Publisher's Summary
A classic coming-of-age story.
Carl Matt - even his name mocks him. The people of Wattle Beach do their best to grind him under foot. Why are the Matts such pariahs?
The answer lies in Wiseman's Cove, a short ride across the strait, where Carl finds refuge in the most unlikely place. Wiseman's Cove has been waiting for Carl - waiting a long time.

Loved this book
Very happy with this audible version. I already read the book back in high school and remembered it was a great story. The audible performance didn't disappoint and the narrator is really skilled in doing different voices. And if this is all just one person doing the voices, then that's really impressive. I was very immersed in this book and it felt very nostalgic and it's the kind of stories I like to listen to.

Surprisingly deep and well developed.
I only had to "read" this book for my English class and decided listening at 2x speed would be the best way to get it done. I then found that I enjoyed the book, it does a good job at getting you emotionally invested, even for a stubborn person like myself. The twist is really good and the call back too.
