Publisher's Summary

Five toasts. Five people. One lifetime.

I'm here to remember - all that I have been and all that I will never be again.

At the bar of a grand hotel in a small Irish town sits 84-year-old Maurice Hannigan. He's alone, as usual - though tonight is anything but. Pull up a stool and charge your glass, because Maurice is finally ready to tell his story.

Over the course of this evening, he will raise five toasts to the five people who have meant the most to him. Through these stories - of unspoken joy and regret, a secret tragedy kept hidden, a fierce love that never found its voice - the life of one man will be powerfully and poignantly laid bare.

Heart-breaking and heart-warming all at once, the voice of Maurice Hannigan will stay with you long after all is said.

Beautiful book, I loved it

This was a delight to listen too and the narrator was beautiful to listen too. I will listen to this again.

poignant and funny!

Oh so poignant and funny and real. My father was from Irish stock, I can see the link so clearly.

Terrific

Amazing book. Truly loved it. Felt like I was in the hotel with Morris reliving his life.
The narrator Nail was superb.

Magical

I felt like I was transported to a one man show in the Everyman Theatre in Cork. Utterly mesmerising. A standout story that will remain long after you finish. Unforgettable.
Narration can make or break an audio book. Niall Buggy is the soul of this story. As fine as a Middleton Rare whiskey.

Loved it.

Beautifully written reflection on life by a man at the end of his. The device of telling the story through 'toasts' is clever.

Age and Amends

Loved the story. Loved the life and death accounts through one man's eyes. The reader was deep and perfectly understandable even with an Irish accent. A true fiction of the consequences of one's actions in an everyday world.

Fantastic touching story

What a great story and so well performed by Niall Buggy. I laughed and chuckled and I must admit I cried in the end, wishing for the whisky toasts to go on and on. But all good things must come to an end. Isn’t that what our Irish protagonist would have told us?

Stunning

Loved every second of this very moving story, an old Irishman recalling his life. Beautiful writing, top quality narration. Sorry it had to end! Still wiping the tears.

Wonderful story

Really enjoyed this book. Believable characters who are likeable. Realistic story and people. I get the narrator is supposed to be old, but the constant sound of a mouth full of saliva is truly revolting.
