Publisher's Summary

AN INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

'Waypoints is a memoir with a difference! I wanted to tell the stories and share the experiences that have shaped me, but to do that I needed to challenge myself and spend some time in my own company, away from the distractions of everyday life. And for me there's no better place to reflect than in the wild Scottish Highlands.'

In this journey of self-discovery, Sam Heughan sets out along the West Highland Way to explore his heritage and reflect on the personal waypoints that define him. The result is a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to Sam, and a charming, funny, wise and searching insight to the world through his eyes.

The walk itself is the backdrop for this narrative, which tells the story of Sam's life while exploring his outlook, values and interests. Sam is a figure of fascinating contrasts, a Hollywood star with deep roots in rural Scotland, he's both outgoing and content in his own company. He has strong connections with his fans while recognising the fragility and value of anonymity, and in My Peak Challenge he has created a network that brings people together as they chase individual goals. In his new book, while charting a path through a stunning wilderness, Sam maps out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendships, love and life.

Waypoints is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much to Sam about himself as it does to his listeners.

An insightful, funny memoir

Sam Heughan writes (and reads) beautifully. Touching in some parts, laugh-out-loud funny in others, Sam gives us an insight into his life and character, whilst retaining his innate dignity and privacy. Loved it!

A journey into self (waypoints)

I love the unique Gen X take on this autobiography so entertaining and gives a more insightful look into the narrative of the personal story. Being narrated by the author makes it more personal and relatable.

What a walk

Whimsical and reflective. A pleasure to listen along with Sam’s lilting tone. A personal tale of resilience and preserving against the odds, both physically and emotionally, with a little help from the mushroom army.

Worth a listen!

I read it before listening but nothing beats hearing it told by the man himself!

A wonderful insight

I loved this autobiography of Sam Heughan. His honesty, humour and love of Scotland was inspiring and a breath of fresh air. It was wonderful to really get to know Sam Heughan as himself, not a character he plays. His narration of the story really added to the experience and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, especially the glimpses into his journey at the end of each day. Thanks for being so open with your challenges and joys Sam!

Well written and well read

Beautifully narrated, this is like a love letter to Scotland while also offering insights into the author’s experiences as an actor. I liked how normal Sam’s experiences seemed to be and how open he was about the realities of his determination to succeed in a competitive industry. His ego was in check for this book, unlike the collaboration with Graham McTavish, and that was a relief! People looking for gossip or insights into his love life will be disappointed, but I thought this was a great book and absolutely loved the descriptions of the scenery during his walk.

Loved the story, it was just like being there with Sam. I didn't want it to end. Made me stop and think about things in my own life. Sam Heughan is a very inspirational person.

Cracking good tale

This tale represents a rare privilege - to be allowed into someone else's process. People are not usually so generous of spirit or courageous of soul. Delightfully told with aplomb well done Sam, Diana should be proud of you!

Really enjoyable

I really enjoyed this story. I was after the story of a fellow walker but got so much more from this. I loved the joy in Sam’s journey of self discovery whilst tackling this incredible walk. The story was all the richer for Sam telling it himself.
