Masters of Doom is the amazing true story of the Lennon and McCartney of video games: John Carmack and John Romero. Together, they ruled big business. They transformed popular culture. And they provoked a national controversy. More than anything, they lived a unique and rollicking American Dream, escaping the broken homes of their youth to produce the most notoriously successful game franchises in history - Doom and Quake - until the games they made tore them apart. This is a story of friendship and betrayal, commerce and artistry.

On point primer on the practice of Game Design
I was turned onto the book via Justin’s fantastic podcast series of the same name.
Even as a game designer with some previous experience I found the book is a valuable resource filled with actionable insights and exercises that helped bring order to what can be a somewhat chaotic creative process.
Justin’s reading of the book follows in the style of his podcast presentation; a genuine and well considered professional who has lived the lessons he’s delivering.
A must listen for anyone aspiring to become a designer and one that I am sure I will return to regularly.
