She seeks answers from a member of the most prominent family of magicians, but she quickly learns that finding the truth won't be easy, especially when he turns out to be as artless as her, and more compelling and dangerous than books.

Wonderful series
I love this series and the growth of the main characters. It took a while to get used to the language and the sometimes odd cadence of the narrator, but I also find it calming. It has become a bit of a comfort series when I want to re-listen to something in the background. I'm sure I will listen to it many more times

Awesome read
This is one of my all time favourite series, I read them so long ago that I don't remember much that happened. So they have been on my reread list for a while now. I was so excited to see them come out as an audiobook but a bit worried about how it would read. It was even better then I could have hoped and I loved revisiting this world. Definitely will be buying all six books if/when they become available.

Amazing read
I have read these books over and over since I was a teenager when I first discovered them, and I still love the story. Listening to it has given it a new depth and has made it so much easier to imagine it all. The narrator gives life to each character with their own unique tone. I can't wait to listen to the remain8ng books in this series.

Very enjoyable
Narrator was perfect. Great story. Some details were off, like it seemed a bit strange for a scarred warrior woman to have 'hairless' legs while on an epic quest. That would be an amazing feat.

One of my all time favourite Epic Fantasy series
I have been a fan of this series for 20 years. I was so excited when I found out Audible was finally going to make it into an audiobook version. Kate Forsyth is a master story teller - intelligent, interesting multifaceted characters and story lines. Often with many strong and relatable female character(s) - which I love. No boring 'absolutely evil' or 'absolutely good' characters. I think this is her only epic fantasy series - I wish there were more. This story I think was well read by Elle Newlands - I enjoyed her Scottish accent, her pace and easily followed the changes from character to character. As an Aussie I am super proud to share this country with such an amazing author as Kate Forsyth. I can't recommend any of her works more highly. However, since my favourite genre is Epic Fantasy - this series is a keeper and this first book and this series is something I will personally listen to repeatedly for the rest of my life.

Unexpected pronunciations but overall loved the audiobook
I was initially taken aback by the narrator- particularly the way she pronounced some of the words. That’s probably just because I don’t know the correct pronunciation though, having only ever come across these words and names written down.
But I’ve grown to love the narrator’s voice. I really enjoyed her portrayal of Brun! She does a good job distinguishing between the characters. I love this series and I’ve really enjoyed this audiobook. Already downloaded the next one!
