Publisher's Summary

Winner of the Booker Prize, 2022

Colombo, 1990. Maali Almeida, war photographer, gambler and closet queen, has woken up dead in what seems like a celestial visa office. His dismembered body is sinking in the Beira Lake and he has no idea who killed him. At a time when scores are settled by death squads, suicide bombers and hired goons, the list of suspects is depressingly long, as the ghouls and ghosts who cluster around him can attest.

But even in the afterlife, time is running out for Maali. He has seven moons to try and contact the man and woman he loves most and lead them to a hidden cache of photos that will rock Sri Lanka.

Best Audiobook

This is the best audiobook i have ever listened to. Shehan’s novel is spectacular and destructive, but Shivantha’s narration adds more depth to it than any narration i’ve heard before

Worthy of the Booker Prize

This is a magnificent novel, darkly humorous, politically pointed and wise. The coterie of the Dead are tragic and touching in the great Bureaucracy of the afterlife. Perhaps the best performance of an audio book I have had the pleasure to hear.

Unique concept, beautifully written

Just needed some pausing between sections to help with context. I often had to rewind once I had worked out what was happening. With such unusual subject matter that would help - post production edit??

Wondrous and wild. Loved every moment.

A wonderful performance of a book that shines humour and wit on the human condition. Full of imagination and with a compelling plot, this is one of those books I will miss now I am finished.

Review of The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida.

A wonderful book about a sad stage of Sri Lanka’s history. The plot, the language and the reading are all excellent. One of the best books I’ve listened to.
