Publisher's Summary

Lack of self-awareness is the single greatest obstacle leaders face in their development, effectiveness, and advancement. Dr. John C. Maxwell will help any leader become more self-aware, focused, and confident.

With 50 years of leading and teaching experience, influential leadership expert and speaker John C. Maxwell can help you become your best leadership self.

In The Self-Aware Leader, Maxwell teaches you how to:

  • Gauge your effectiveness as a leader.
  • Make better choices that lead to success.
  • Discover and correct your own mistakes.
  • Improve your leadership with the team.
  • Make the right trades in your career.

Self-awareness is key for new and seasoned leaders who want to avoid micro-managing, handle criticism with grace, and give others the credit they deserve. Maxwell also aims to help current and new managers looking to identify their strengths, become a better learner, and improve listening skills.

When leaders don’t see themselves clearly, understand their strengths and weaknesses, or recognize their negative interactions with their team, they limit their influence and undermine their own effectiveness. What’s the solution? Become a self-aware leader.

Self awareness 4 growing mindset

In the coaching, mentoring & team development areas, one needs to be of a growth mindset as well. If I don’t learn something new from this book or any of the coaching, leadership & business platforms. I am closed to any teaching, therefore my ego has blinded me. John has refreshed my mindset in many areas and added value to my growth, with this book.

Good back average narration

Reminded me that I need to check both the narrator as well as the book reviews.

The power of audible books comes as much from the narrator as the content of the book. The content of the book was good, nothing too ground breaking but some good summaries and takeaways. The narrator was rather monotone though and lacked the adequate pauses and inflection to make the story engaging and enjoyable.

Having listened to over 50 books now, I’ve found that if the narrator is average, the book is average (no matter how powerful the content). Next time I’ll listen to the sample!
