Story
Years ago, Juliet left a little piece of her heart in Paris - and now, separated from her husband and with her children flying the nest, it's time to get it back! She puts on her best red lipstick, books a cosy attic apartment near Notre-Dame and takes the next train out of London. Arriving at the Gare du Nord, the memories come flooding back: bustling street cafés, cheap wine in candlelit bars and a handsome boy with glittering eyes. But Juliet has also been keeping a secret for over two decades - and she begins to realise it's impossible to move forwards without first looking back.

Story
Separated in every way but distance, Sebastian resides in a guest cottage across the lawn from Ella's ramshackle farmhouse. When Ella married the handsome, celebrated artist Sebastian Montclair at just 19, she was madly in love. Now, those blissful years of marriage have turned into the definition of an unconventional set-up. With an ex-husband living under her nose and a home crowded by hostile teenaged children, gender-confused chickens—not to mention her hypercritical mother whose own marriage is coming undone—Ella finds comfort in the company of the charming gardener, Ludo.

Story
Lou is reeling from a triple whammy of shocks that have left her loveless, jobless and almost homeless. Staying for a night with an old friend in the Cotswold village of Foxwell, she lends a helping hand to a spectacularly ungrateful older man with a reputation in the village for being a 'character'. When Edgar makes a suggestion that would solve two out of three of Lou's problems in one fell swoop, it's hard to resist. Especially as the return to the village of the very attractive Remy—not that he's even noticed Lou!—makes it an unusually appealing place to live.

Critic Reviews
"I've always been a Catherine Alliott fan, and this was an absolute joy. A delicious tangle of secrets and hidden desire. Alliott's heroines are always a delight - like Bridget Jones' posher cousin: a bit dizzy, but with a huge heart and a strong sense of what's right and what's important. And in this case, that's family. A complicated, messy, imperfect family and all the baggage that brings, all playing out in the most gorgeous setting. How I longed to live in the Pink House! It's a modern fairy tale of mistakes and the lengths we go to to pretend everything is perfect: wise, funny, glamorously chaotic and achingly romantic." (Veronica Henry)

Not her best
I was expecting so much more after reading a number of Catherine Alliott‘s books but this read was lacklustre and too long when so ordinary. Disappointing.
