Publisher's Summary

The Lion. Son of the Emperor, brother of demigods and Primarch of the Dark Angels. Awakened. Returned. And yet...lost.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Witness the Emperor’s First Son make his dramatic return to the 41st Millennium! Much has changed since he last walked among the stars, but not Lion El’Jonson’s drive to protect humanity from the threats that assail it from all sides.

THE STORY

After ten thousand years of dreaming, locked in stasis at the heart of his shattered home world, Lion El'Jonson wakes to the nightmare of Imperium Nihilus.

In this midnight age, the dying embers of humanity are threatened on all sides by the hungry darkness. Alone, even the Lion has no hope of prevailing against such evil – but there are those who would aid him in his quest. Hunted to the edge of endurance, many among his Fallen knights have long-awaited the day their liege would return to redeem them. The Lord of Shadowed Paths must gather these lost loyalists to his side once more, and stride forth to vanquish a traitorous son and the twisted Chaos warband that calls him master.

Faced with these strange times, the Lion can be certain of nothing and no one, except for himself. But in a galaxy without the Emperor, without the Imperium, without his Legion, and without Caliban…who is he?

The Loin has returned!

Excellent book especially if you're a dark angels fan. The development of the Fallen and the Lion was expertly done.

One of the best BL books

Though I’ve never been the Lion’s fan, I absolutely love how he is depicted here.
The moments of genuine chuckles, of actual sadness and amusement when he learns more about modern Imperium. The moments of excitement, of joy and frustration - this book is excellently written.
It has everything you need - the characters are likable and engaging, the villains are actually competent and even somewhat reasonable.
Guilliman should have had this treatment.
But the star of the book are Fallen. They are different: some are more loyal to the Emperor, than current Dark Angels, some are lost and looking for forgiveness, some are just living their best lives pirating (we even have an one-eyed pirate!), joking, and having fun; some Fallen hate Lion and the Imperium but detest Chaos and Traitors, some using Chaos for their own agenda, and of course some are just hard-core Traitors.
If you fan of the Lion - this will be a treat. If you are not a fan like me, you’ll find that Lion is kinda a great Primarch, even if not your favorite one.

dynamic storytelling worthy of the lion!

Loved this.
Loved how the characters were less two demential compared to a standard Warhammer story but still plenty of epic sword play.

Pretty good

This book has delivered on what a lot of us were hoping for. It's expanded the lore while answering some 30 year old questions.
I'm keen to see what the Lord of the 1st dies from here.
