Publisher's Summary
A young New Yorker, separated from the rest of his hunting party, finds himself lost in the mountains of Kentucky in 1896.
To his relief, he is rescued by a 60-year-old man just as a snowstorm hits. He's taken to the old man's home only to find it's a fortress adorned with memorabilia from the Civil War more than 30 years earlier. And the older man is a "Confederate colonel" who has been guarding what he calls the last hold out of the Confederacy.
The author, Joseph Alexander Altsheler (April 29, 1862 – June 5, 1919) was an American newspaper reporter, editor, and author of popular historical fiction.
