Mills & Boon presents The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

‘I am a Duke. I’m not asking you to marry me. I am offering to marry you. It’s a different thing entirely.’

When the Duke of Ashbury returns from war scarred, he realises he needs an heir – which means he needs a wife! When Emma Gladstone, a vicar's daughter turned seamstress visits wearing a wedding dress, he decides on the spot that she'll do.

His terms are simple:
- They will be husband and wife by night only.
- No lights, no kissing.
- No questions about his battle scars.
- Last, and most importantly… Once she's pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again.

But Emma is no pushover. She has secrets and some rules of her own:
- They will have dinner together every evening.
- With conversation.
- And teasing.
- Last, and most importantly… Once she's seen the man beneath the scars, he can't stop her from falling in love…

Fantastic story of a war hero and parsons daughter

Well written and read with heart and feeling. Both author and narrative was of excellent quality. The story was diverse and interesting. I could not imagine how the hero lived with the pain and scars left by burns.

Fun Regency romance and a great narrator

First Tessa Dare book I’ve read and I enjoyed every minute, so much that I downloaded the other 2 x Girl Meets Duke books in this series. Great characters and unique stories and quite a few laugh out loud moments in all three. I truly enjoyed Mary Jane Wells narration of all three - especially the male hero’s, I’m only disappointed she hasn’t narrated more Tessa Dare books. Not sure why another reviewer didn’t like her I thought she was awesome!

Just loved this witty interesting romance.

So much fun. A unexpected story line. So much love and restoration. It gives hope and a fun filled story to escape into. Thank you and I loved the narrator and her reading of the book.

Great Story

Read it heard it loved it. What a great story. Emma an A1 top of the list heroine. Still smiling. Wasn't impressed with Ash's voice.

Lovely

I had read this before I got the audio book. I enjoyed it then and the narration by Mary Jane Wells was wonderful. She has just the right amount of variation in her speech to give each character their own voice in the story. It was lovely to listen to someone with great diction and inflection.

Sweet love story

A lot is wrong with the story; the language is too modern, the Duke's voice hasn't been narrated well and the story is quite simple. However, I still enjoyed it. A nice, easy, relaxed novel to listen to

Typical chick-lit, almost ruined by narrator

Firstly, I did (for some reason) enjoy the light story even with the difficult to listen to narration and the inaccuracies of the time period this book was set in. If you find you don't mind books like The Duke and I, then you won't have any trouble with this.

I'm used to listening to my audiobooks at 1.5x but for this one I had to slow it to 0.85x because the words were just garbled and often skipped altogether. I did think my book just downloaded wrong but even re-downloading didn't fix so I instead had to dedicate +8 and a half-ish hrs to the story.

I'm one of those readers who doesn't really know (or care) about historical accuracies but even I noticed a few problems... that being said the story itself reads like a girlish fantasy. A simple story with a predictable end, girl meets misunderstood boy, they (8 hours later) fall in love while fighting the attraction the whole book and eventually live happily ever after (sorry for the spoiler). I didn't mind the simple with some comical humour that was meant to be set in a sort of Regency period. It was fine if all you're after is a love story but if you're a heavy historical fiction/Regency expert you might have trouble...

I might buy the other books eventually, just to hear how the other girls fare in their love stories but for now I don't feel a rush to go and buy the other 3 (at the time of writing this)
