Modern culture is increasingly outspoken against a biblical understanding of what it means to be a woman. In light of these pressures, it’s more important than ever to help women see the truth about who God created them to be. In this powerful book, Rosaria Butterfield uses Scripture to confront 5 common lies about sexuality, faith, feminism, gender roles, and modesty often promoted in our secular culture today.

Sibomana (ca. 1915-1975), a pastor in the African nation of Burundi.

Story
Penal substitutionary atonement—the belief that Jesus’s death on the cross satisfied God’s wrath against sin—is central to the Christian faith, but frequently debated. Is it just to punish an innocent person in place of the guilty? How can the temporary death of one substitute for the eternal death of many? Why doesn’t the cross grant Christians unlimited permission to sin? In this famous essay, late theologian J. I. Packer analyzes Scripture and the works of early Reformers to defend the truth of Christ’s substitutionary suffering and death, the heart of the Christian gospel.

The evergreen wreath symbolizes eternal life and includes four candles—typically three purple and one pink, with a white candle in the middle that symbolizes the purity of Christ. Various traditions assign different topics to each candle, and the candles are usually given names to remind us of the good news of Christ's birth.

Story
Sadly, most of us struggle to set aside time to pray. But, fear not, this is not another book that will pile on the guilt, simply saying pray better and more often. Instead, Michael Reeves shows us not only why prayer is so essential, but also how we can enjoy it too. Taking his cue from Calvin’s definition that prayer is ‘the chief exercise of faith’, Reeves helps us understand that prayer should be a natural expression of our faith. Just as faith is awakened as we grasp the wonders of the gospel, so prayer follows as our hearts respond to these glorious truths.

Absolutely Inspiring
This is a simply wonderful advent devotional. Like other reviews I've read I had to hold myself back from racing ahead. It is deep, tender, thought provoking, heart warming, hugely informative - and best of all Christ focused. It provided so much food for contemplation of the Christmas story and the prayer at the end of each chapter was 'heart capturing'. I read the paperback as well as the audible. The audible version is particularly beautiful with the gentle lullaby weaving in and out - and I love his Scottish accent 😊 I'm going to buy these as early Christmas presents next year.
