Story
The man most hated by the LAPD - a black lawyer who has made his name by bringing lawsuits alleging racism and brutality by police officers - has been found murdered on the eve of a high-profile trial. The list of suspects includes half the police force. And Harry Bosch is the detective chosen to head the investigation. The political dangers of the case are huge. If it's not investigated fairly, the public outcry could make the Rodney King riots look tame. But a full investigation will take Bosch into the ugliest corners of law enforcement.

Publisher's Summary
In the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, not many murder victims die almost a decade after the crime. So when a man succumbs to complications from being shot by a stray bullet nine years earlier, Bosch catches a case in which the body is still fresh, but any other evidence is virtually nonexistent.
Now Bosch and his new partner, rookie Detective Lucia Soto, are tasked with solving what turns out to be a highly charged, politically sensitive case. Starting with the bullet that's been lodged for years in the victim's spine, they must pull new leads from years-old information, which soon reveals that this shooting may have been anything but random.
Read by Titus Welliver, star of the Bosch TV series.

Excellent narrator and great storyline!
This is the first audio book I've ever listened to and it's been a difficult benchmark for others to beat.... the most recent book I downloaded was another Harry Bosch one with Titus Welliver as the narrator because I enjoyed this one so much!
Michael Connelly creates the perfect balance between character development and the storyline.
I would have though that I would only listen to audio books whilst on the go, but I listened to this one while I was in bed too because I couldn't wait for the next part!

Well written and constructed police procedural
I enjoyed the story of the grizzled near retirement homicide cop and the newbie solving cold cases with political connections, but not the monotone of the narrator. It really grates after a while. A little inflection now and then would go a long way to improving the delivery.
Good story though.

Excellent
I thoroughly enjoy Michael Connelly's Bosch character and enjoy watching Titus Welliver portray him on screen...this was a bonus having him read it also. I could visualise the book from start to finish. I can't wait for the next story and season on Prime.

Not my favourite
I quite liked the main character. The story, at times, struggled to hold my attention, although that could have been influenced by the tellers limited variation between the characters voices, which made it hard to follow at times. It felt like whenever the story built to a possible peak it was fizzled out and whatever potential it had for satisfying justice was thwarted. The ending was disappointing.
