Publisher's Summary

First as a music writer and then as an editor, promoter, manager, broadcaster, publicist and author, Stuart Coupe has experienced the giddy highs and crushing lows of a life lived in the creative fast lane. Shake Some Action is your backstage pass to his remarkable story, from starting his first magazine at the age of fourteen to hoovering heroic amounts of cocaine before interviewing Boy Dylan (who asked him where he got his drugs from). From getting garbage bags full of fan (and hate) mail as the music critic for the teen magazine phenomenon Dolly to managing the Hoodoo Gurus and Paul Kelly - he has been at the centre of Australian cultural life for over four decades.

This is a book about fandom. About excitement. About some very bad behaviour. About writing. About talking. About being driven. About loving music and words and trying to explain that love to others - and having a myriad of adventures and encounters in the process.

This is the wild life and times of the a man who has never anything by halves. Get ready to kick out the jams!

ANOTHER GREAT BOOK FROM STUART COUPE

I loved listening to Stuart read about his incredible career and life - I didn't want it to end. I have read and enjoyed all Stuart's books and this one didn't disappoint. Who's next?

Brilliant -

Stuart Coupe has been writing amazing books on music for more than 20 years, on specific subjects like Paul Kelly, Michael Gudinski and Tex Perkins to name a few. This time the subject is his own life, and what a great story it is.

Shake Some Action tells the story of a music fan, turned manager, turned, promoter, turned journo, turned DJ, turned biographer. Its amazing that he could keep up with it all. It sure has left him with a great story to tell.

The tales of the authors encounters with people, many famous stars included are funny, enlightening and engaging, I never wanted this book to end.

Although I have both the physical book and audio version I decided on the listening option. Stuarts reading is excellent with that "radio voice", it made for a more personal experience. I really hope the publisher of Stuarts other books have audio versions made available, in particular The Promoters and The Roadies.

Maybe there will be a volume 2?

Hard to imagine a better book. Great stories. Well written, Well read.

10 out of 10.
