Geralt the Witcher has fought monsters and demons across the land, but even he may not be prepared for what is happening to his world. The kings and armies are manoeuvring for position, each fearing invasion from across the river, each fearing their neighbours more. Intrigue, dissent and rebellion are on all sides.
The Elves and other non-humans are still suffering under decades of repression, and growing numbers join the commando units hidden deep in the forest, striking at will and then dissolving into the trees. The Magicians are fighting amongst themselves, some in the pay of the kings, some sympathetic to the elves.
And against this backdrop of fear and contempt Geralt and his lover Yennefer must protect Ciri, orphaned heir and sought by all sides. For the prophecy rests on her, and whether she lives or dies she has the power to save the world - or perhaps end it. Read by Peter Kenny.

Another entertaining installment of the Witcher saga.
I was impressed by the narrator's performance, it's so easy to forget that it's just one person voicing all the characters!
"Muy recomendable para los fans de la saga!"
Continuación de la historia de Witcher. Narración impecable! uno de los mejores audiolibros que conozco!
If you like the witcher games this book series is a must read. The performance is really good and the story is very good as well
"Masterful gritty dark fantasy a must-listen"
Better than the great first book Last Wish, and reading The Time of Contempt made getting through the mediocre prologue novel Blood of Elves very worth it. Better translation too. Lots of attention to detail and side characters that served to make the main story stronger. Ciri and Geralt really go through some difficult changes which makes this novel all the more interesting. The dialogue is excellent like the other works in this series. And last but not least, I definitely recommend the narrator Peter Kenny. He has become one of my favorite narrators of fantasy, and I haven't found many good ones in this genre. He kept the pace appropriate to the action, the chases, the struggles to survive or the more contemplative moments, and he actually speaks in different mannerisms depending on which character we're with while still speaking very clearly. Good show!
I am native polish speaker, this is brilliant translation, even better voice recording - Mr Kenny thank you! , The use of the wide variety of accents available in English facilities the story well and improves the experience. Choice of welsh accent for dwarves is a touch of genius - made me chuckle more than I expected. Can't wait to for Lady of the Lake. Bring it on!
"If you like Iain M Banks you will enjoy this"
Peter Kenny superb as always
Any Iain Banks book. In fact I think this is Mr Banks (!)
If I see Peter is the narrator I am likely to buy the book. Simply the best.
Stories about the Witcher are very close to my heart as I read them in original years ago. Sapkowski has an incredible ability to twist and turn the traditional tales and legends in order to provide very charming, emotionally engaging, full of cheeky humour and compelling stories.
I was curious whether the witty charm of these stories can be translated into English and the books can still be as absorbing as the Polish language ones. I was pleasantly surprised that Audible has the full set of the Witcher saga audiobooks, so I purchased and was not disappointed!
I think the job of a narrator is tremendously important in such fantasy story because of the abundance of characters in it . Peter Kenny did an exquisite job! I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book. The characters were very strong and distinct and were portrayed with great deal of attention from the narrator (which means a lot to a reader who knows the characters well).
I would recommend this audiobook (and others in the Witcher saga) to all the readers/listeners who love fantasy, especially to those who don't yet know Andrzej Sapkowski, and these who know him well but read the books in his mother tongue - they will not be disappointed!
Great performance of a very enjoyable story. A very real feeling world and a great cast of characters with very believable motivations. surprisingly funny at times. Excellent narration makes it very easy to keep track of the characters.
"The story gets going"
After a slow start with a lot of talking, and more characters than I could keep track of, it is a surprise when the story picks up and hurtles along.
The author's use of little side scenes really brings the world to life.
Peter Kenny's clinical narration contrasts with his broad range of (albeit British) accents distinguishes the characters and gives them depth.
A good grown up book. Great background if you are playing the computer games!
"Narration lets it down"
This is a great story, with great narration, probably some of the best I've heard. However it really irritates me that the narrator pronounces some names incorrectly. Dandelion is pronounced 'Dan-di-lee-on' and Applegate is pronounced 'App-leg-it'. It really seems forced and unnatural. I can understand pronouncing made up words differently or even pronouncing them with different dialects but those two names really don't have any counterparts and are just pronounced wrong on purpose for some reason. It drives me mad.
But other than that its great.
Great story ciri is an awesome character the story has a great flow and good interchanging linked plots
"brilliant again the books are amazing I would reco"
amazing would recommend them again and again drive to work and listen to it, thanks you so much and the man the does the voice over I think I would like to buy you a pint or two.
"Great start, weaker ending, awesome performance."
Brilliant stuff in this instalment - loads of intrigue, action and adventure. Falters a bit towards the end but the performance, as worth the others in the series is brill and kept me listening.
This narrator is amazing and really brings the story to life. I would definitely recommend it if you're a fan of the Witcher books.
